2025 Good Friday Poem –
“I Am Thirsty“
by Tedd Pullano
Jesus
On the cross
Is thirsty
Love itself
Is on the cross
And is thirsty
But for what?
Maybe he thirsts
For love to be shown to all?
His heart thirsts
For all to feel the love of the Creator
His soul thirsts
For all to know His love
For them
He is the depth of love
Selfless love
And on the cross
In pain and suffering,
With deep thirst for all to know his love,
He continues to live out love.
In love, Jesus takes care of his mom
And his friend:
“Mom, here is your son.
My friend, ‘Here is your mother.”
Giving
Loving
Always giving and loving
Until he thirsts
After loving his mother and his friend,
He speaks the truth he knows:
“I am thirsty”
And again, What is his thirst?
Its not for our wine
Or something to drink.
It is for us to know his love,
And for us to love one another
Always
Then, after hi s cry of thirst,
He drinks
Then he gives up his spirit
And he knows it is finished
And what is finished?
His teaching
His giving
The example of how to love
His love
Selfless love
He offered it
He taught it
He lived it
And now
His teaching. His example
Is finished.
Even as his Spirit goes
He continues to love
Because that is who he is
And that is what matters
Then
Now
Of course he is thirsty
But not his body
Not his mouth or throat
But his heart
His heart is thirsty
“Blessed are those who thirst – for the love i have lived”
You can quench his thirst
By receiving his love
And by
Loving one another
As he have loved you
